Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, process, and prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination and analysis.
  • Perform tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining procedures to aid in diagnostic interpretation.
  • Use microscopes and other diagnostic tools to examine tissue samples, identify abnormalities, and diagnose diseases.
  • Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, and surgeons to provide accurate and timely diagnostic reports based on histological findings.
  • Participate in the preparation and interpretation of diagnostic reports for medical professionals.
  • Maintain and ensure adherence to safety protocols and laboratory quality assurance standards.
  • Properly label, track, and maintain accurate records of all patient samples, diagnostic results, and associated information.
  • Perform quality control checks and assist in laboratory audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of biological samples, following health and safety guidelines.
  • Stay updated with advances in histopathology techniques and participate in ongoing professional development and research initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in Histopathology or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience as a Histopathology Technician, with expertise in tissue sample preparation, sectioning, staining, and microscopic analysis.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, including infection control and proper disposal of biological waste.
  • Proficient in histological techniques such as paraffin sectioning, cryostat use, and staining procedures (e.g., H&E, special stains).
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with precision and accuracy in handling specimens.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with pathologists and other medical professionals, and explain findings clearly.
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment, including microscopes, tissue processors, and embedding centers, effectively.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to understand clinical pathology.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records of diagnostic results and patient information.
  • Ability to follow strict laboratory protocols and work independently or in a team-oriented environment.
  • Previous GCC experience is an added advantage but not required.
